I’ve been writing too many top 5 types of posts recently so I think it’s time for a more detailed or thoughtful topic for you all!
I’ve always meant to write this post but what really prompted me to do so was seeing more unfair reactions from the community in regards to Fleet Admiral Sakazuki being as powerful as Garp The Hero in his Prime. but with that aside there are some things you have to acknowledge when comparing Luffy’s & Rogers Journeys.
Gol D. Roger as we know is the man who “conquered” The New World & found the forbidden Treasure, One Piece. He accomplished this in a time where The New World was not completely known & much of it remained unexplored by the majority of the worlds population. Unlike Luffy, Roger while sailing The New World, never had a set goal other than being Pirates but even still the journey/adventure itself was nothing to take lightly.
The most difficult parts about Rogers Journey was exploring the mysterious New World & the few noteworthy rivals he had to contend with in his Pirating career. Rivals such as Rocks D. Xebec, Shiki The Golden Lion, & last but not least Edward Newgate “Whitebeard” The vastness & dangers of that unexplored sea claims the lives of hundreds of Pirates on a daily basis due to it’s random weather patterns & The frightening Sea Monsters that roam it in search of prey.
Being chased & battling with Garp The Hero in multiple deadly confrontations to his encounters with a Man capable of Destroying The World is some intense things in his history. But at the same time the True Era Of Pirates did not begin until his death & he’s the One that set in motion, Luffy’s journey amongst thousands to possibly millions of others!
many years before Luffy’s birth thousands set sail & begin to start their own journeys in hopes of Finding One Piece. Pirates like Crocodile & many others were just as motivated & inspired as Luffy! they also had a significant head–start on the young Captain & at the same time Super Powers like The Yonko were beginning to come into being as well!
Rogers death also inspired men like Smoker who were determined to keep the World safe from the Inevitable destruction & Death that this Great Pirate Era would bring in its wake. you have to keep in mind that while many set sail with that dream in mind, there were many others who even though were inspired, were still crooked & ruthless individuals! there was a good & bad to Roger kicking off this Wild Age.
This is where we put in perspective to explain how Luffy & his Rivals in The Worst Generation, have more difficult journey than Roger. Roger when he learned of the Road Poneglyphs, was able to freely sail the seas & locate them without too much difficulty or obstacles! he even had help according to Odens Flashback. Besides having to trick Big Mom, who wasn’t at her current level of military Dominance, there wasn’t a force like Emperor Kaido & his Beast Pirates competing for the same Items while keeping Roger from finding the rest freely.
Luffy while being relatively young, has to Compete with Pirates who have spent Decades building their Individual Power & Military Forces that rivals even The World Government! The Emperors are obstacles Luffy Must overcome to accomplish his Goal & again I stress to you that he’s vastly surpassed in experience & firepower.
Luffy also has Powerful & driven Rivals with the Same Ambition who are just as motivated as he is himself! “Captain” Kid will be one of his biggest rivals in years to come & there’s no reason to go in–depth for how much of an obstacle/Rival Marshall D. Teech is going to be at the end of it all.
It’s also a fact that he has to Clash with the Marines who are stronger than they’ve ever been in History & are highly motivated under Fleet Admiral Sakazuki’s, Ambitious leadership! They’ve just bolstered their Might with the Use of Vegapunks New Invention “SSG”
The Strawhats & his rivals have quite the Journey ahead of them & the obstacles they must overcome far surpasses what Roger had to contend with in his lifetime! with trials like these, Luffy is bound to surpass Gol D. Roger in nearly every way.

Yes Roger & Garp battled Rocks D. Xebec with many top tier individuals, But they were all around the same younger age as Roger himself! meaning that Shiki, Whitebeard, Big Mom, & etc were in a way similar to Luffy’s rivals in the Worst Generation currently!
It’s the equivalent of Eustass Kid, Law, Apoo, Urogue all joining Emperor Blackbeard & Luffy along with a Marine ally would have to battle them to save the world. many years into the future & people would look back on that event in a similar way to Rocks & Roger
